Future scenarios for our children

Parent and Child Teams (Ouder- en Kind Teams) Amsterdam invited various stakeholders to think about a future of ‘Growing up and parenting in Amsterdam in 2040’. An important question as a starting point for future scenarios. To be better prepared for what comes and what is needed tomorrow.

 As a starting point for this design challenge, we organized five meetings via ZOOM (being limited due to Covid 19). In various rounds of discussion, participants wrapped their brains around specific issues, kick-started with presentations from Koert van Mensvoort (philosopher, artist and founder of NextNatureNetwork), Monte Königs (expert in the field of youth behaviour and societal change), Lia Karsten (Associate Professor in Urban Geographies at the University of Amsterdam/AISSR), Jan Rotmans (Professor of transition science and sustainability at Erasmus University), Kees Klomp (Economist of meaning) and Dionne Abdoelhafiezkhan (bridge builder to inclusive society).

Besides the fascinating content, which provided a lot of short-term insights and room for longer-term solutions, it was valuable to design and iterate this program in close collaboration with our client. Many thanks for the collaboration with Mieke van den Berg and Marije van der Hijden, and from the board Marleen Beumer and Renske Emmelkamp. 

A magazine has been developed for this project to challenge conversations with the various stakeholders, in order to ultimately together create solutions and actions.
